Thomas Demand is a photographer. However, he does not photograph the world as he finds it. Instead, he creates or recreates scenes *(when dealing with subjects that are of historical significance) using only paper and cardboard. His photographs are of the man-made worlds he manufactures: his scenes that are full of intention.
Thomas Demand started as a sculptor, but now his pieces have grown in size so much so that he can work with up to 30 assistants at one time. The camera is always set up on a tripod in front of the model being built so that the sculpture is assembled with the final product in mind.
I really, really like his work.
